Field Notes
Once you find (or don’t find) a cache you need to log the fact, CacheSense provides several useful tools for logging (and bragging).
The “Field Notes” feature allows you to enter logs into CacheSense and ultimately geocaching.com. To add a field note, select Field Notes... from the menu to open the “Field Notes” screen then New Field Note... from the menu to create a new field note. Select the log type and type in a message.
TIP: Check out the Insert Smiley... menu option in the field note editor, makes it easy to include smileys in your logs.
Once you have entered field notes you will want to convert them to geocaching.com logs, there are a number of ways to do this:
  1. Email: CacheSense can send you an email with a list of the logs you have entered (by default it includes all logs since the last time you sent an email). Attached to this email is a text file in the format required to upload to the geocaching.com field notes feature (select the “Garmin - Colorado and Oregon GPS Receivers” option at http://www.geocaching.com/my/fieldnotes.aspx).
  2. Export: you can also export the text file directly to your SD Card or device store. Open the Field Notes screen for any cache and select Export... from the menu.
  3. TextMarks SMS: if you live in the USA and don’t mind limiting your logs to 140 characters you can use the TextMarks SMS service to log your finds and DNFs directly. Once you set the “Enable TextMarks” option under Options... then "General” you will see Send SMS options on the menu for the field notes and field note editor screens.
  4. Log Online: this menu option is accessed from the field note editor screen and opens the log page for the cache at geocaching.com, the log type is preselected for you and the log message is automatically copied to the clipboard so you can simply paste and submit.
  5. Twitter: CacheSense includes the ability to send an automatic tweet when you log a cache. You can setup separate templates for “Found It”, “Didn’t Find It” and “Generic” (manual) tweets under Options... then "Twitter".
TIP: Leaving the #cacheberry tag in the template helps to support CacheSense and allows your tweets to be shown on our website.
